Kornowa Named 2009 Player of the Year
Kevin Kornowa of Highland Meadows Golf Club won the TDGA top honor for the seventh time. This year he literally “swept” our major championships by winning the TDGA Match Play, the TDGA Stroke Play and was co-medalist in the TDGA Team Championship. In addition to these tournaments, Kevin also won the TDGA Two-Man Better Ball and the A Flight of the TDGA Old Pal with his partner, Jeff Slade Jr. Kevin topped this outstanding year by winning the Toledo Amateur Championship and was medalist in the Ohio Intrastate Challenge where the top players from the 5 Ohio golf associations compete in the fall.
Soule Earns 2009 Senior Player of the Year
Craig Soule of Catawba Island Club and Fremont Country Club took this inaugural award for the TDGA by winning the 2 top TDGA tournaments – the Senior Match Play Championship and the Senior Stroke Play Championship. He also topped off his year by the additional win of the Ohio Senior Hall of Fame Championship played annually at Plum Brook Country Club – a feat made extra special by the fact that last year Craig took over the administration of this long-standing tournament so had to combine the many administrative duties with some excellent playing
Buss Berry Recipient of the 2009 Burt Silverman Award
Buss Berry of Kettenring Country Club was the
recipient of the Burt Silverman Award this year, presented to
someone who has substantially contributed to the golf community.
Buss served on the TDGA Advisory Board for many years and was
extremely active on the Kettenring CC’s Board of Directors – he
also was a long-standing member of the Greens Committee. In
addition to being a very good golfer, Buss’ strongest
contribution was to the Pro Shop of Kettenring and the Defiance
men’s golf team with his countless hours of assistance.
Buss was dedicated to making the game of golf better for
everyone close to him – sadly Buss passed away in June of this
year before he received this honor – but many of his family
members were present to accept the award.
