Mike Gardner is the 2016 Recipient of the Burt Silverman Award

The Burt Silverman Award is presented to someone who has substantially contributed to the golf community.

Mike Gardner

Mike is just completing his 45th year as the Golf coach of Eastwood High School. Prior to this year, he compiled a 543-178 record in dual meets. This includes: 13 Suburban League Championships, 9 Sectional Championships, 23 times qualified for the Northwest District Tournament, and 4 times teams have qualified for the Ohio State tournament. As coach, a total of 69 players were first team all-league. Mike is most proud of teaching his kids to respect the game and play it the proper way. The cornerstone of his program was instill in the kids proper etiquette and knowledge of the rules.

Mike is an outstanding player in his own right. He was an Ohio State Qualifier in high school and also played on the BGSU team that won the MAC Championship in 1972. Mike has also won the Club Championship at Tanglewood GC 13 times.

Not only has Mike distinguished himself as a player and a coach, he has worked at Tanglewood GC for almost 57 years.

Mike is well respected by his peers, students, and teachers for his honesty, integrity, and dedication to the game of golf. He was elected to Ohio High School Golf Coaches Hall of Fame in 1992.
